Accelerating Acceptance

aa2017.jpgEarlier this year The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released a report that showed significant differences between Millennials who identify as LGBTQ and other age groups who identify in the same way.

What I found interesting was what the report said about those who identify as transgender. According to the report, 2 percent of Millennials identify as transgender while less than 0.5 percent of Baby Boomers identify as transgender. This interests me because I’m curious about the differences between the trans experiences of Baby Boomers and the trans experiences of Millennials. Some of the specific things I’m curious about:

  • age of transition
  • experience with the medical industry
  • housing and homelessness
  • experience of crime
  • job and income
  • support/friends/allies
  • family response and relationships
  • spirituality
  • hopes and fears

I have my guesses and hunches and I have stories. But it would be great to have the data and the stories. Lots of studies and surveys are out there. There is still so much to do in terms of getting a good picture of the the trans experience in the US.
